Perhaps I'm a Runner?

Flash-foward several months again and I've discovered that this whole running thing is an addiction...and I've gotten Greg hooked. Muahahah. :>

Follow my journey as I prepare for the Chicago Marathon and get in tip-top shape. A far cry from my days as a fat kid that took like 25 minutes to run a mile in gym class. If only Mr. Simpson could see me now...

Yawn.

Working out tonight seemed to take forever. Mainly because it did. Like 2 hours. Are you kidding me? This sucks. I have no life and I'm at the gym all the time. Okay, maybe I'm over-reacting. The weights combined with 6 miles got really old, really quickly, though. On top of that I actually weigh more than I have in over 2 years. I guess it's muscle?

I get to get up at 5 tomorrow to meet Ade for our final run together for awhile. I was thinking about it tonight and I realized that she's the whole reason I started running in the first place. Without her convincing me to train for the Mini, none of this would have happened. Talk about a positive influence. Now, if only I could find a man to challenge me like that. Haha.

That ain't rain.

It's sweat. Dripping off my hat. Sexy. Just finished 7 miles and I might as well have just climbed out of a pool. It wasn't too bad, but there was some megastank on the Monon. Not me though. I smell like roses.

I like to moveit, moveit

Every year, while you're waiting in the corrals before every organized training run and the Mini, the same montage of songs is played. This little ditty includes several songs, and is supposed to get you pepped up and ready to run.

Included are such inspirational hits as "Right Now" by Van Halen, "Pump Up the Jam" by Technotronic, and "The Bomb" by Bucketheads. The song they've given the honor of starting off the chaos-mix is "I Like to Move It." Every year I hear it and I'm like "I like to move it, move it. I wish they'd play this song longer." So I downloaded it.

Big mistake.

By "Physicallyfitphysicallyfitphysicallyphysicallyphysicallyfit" I was ready to throw my iPod across the gym. Holy crap. I thought I'd share...

Nothing but sore.

Tonight was pretty much torture. My quads are in total agony after all of the squats and that crap yesterday. And then there's my calves. Charlie. Horse. I forgot how much those feel like your whole muscle's just going to rip off your leg. Wow. So tired. Hate mowing the lawn, too. :P

Motivating music: none.

A vote for stronger TV guidelines...

When I'm running on the treadmill and therefore forced to stare at whatever is in front of me, the last thing I want to look at it people having plastic surgery done. The second to last thing is Jim Cramer. I have no idea what he even sounds like, but he looks annoying.

Perfect 10.

The weather this morning was excellent for running: about 70, overcast, just-after-the-rain humid. Ade and I headed to the Monon around 8 and discovered there were quite a few other people already running (duh, Indy Runners, we finally figured out when we saw the tent they had set up). It was kind of cool that there were so many people out. It was almost a social gathering of sorts. I definitely need some cuter running clothes.

Running with Ade ended up working out really well because I managed to keep a non-killing-myself pace and didn't feel too bad afterward. I did, however, promptly go home, eat a bowl of "Optimum Rebound" cereal and pass out for a couple of hours. I've since made it to the shower, but I'm pretty sure I have another nap in the near future.

Hey, I've been sick. I can be a lazy bum today. Until tonight... then it's on.

The Joy of Sitting

Waking up at 4:30 is never fun. Ever. But, I was supposed to meet Ade at 5 to run, so I did it. Somewhat coherently.

Running so many days in a row has helped me appreciate sitting. And any other time I'm not running. The good news is that I'm learning to zone out on the treadmill... unless my toes start cramping up. Which actually happened yesterday. Not sure how to handle that one.

I am a machine

Amusing personal trainer quote of the day:
"Just do tapioca, kickbutts... what?! You didn't play sports in high school? Did you just decide to start running one day?!"

One hour of personal training.
Check.

Five mile run.
Check.

Healthy dinner including apple and turkey sandwich.
Check.

Brownie.
Oops.

Now I just have to get up and run 3 at 5 AM tomorrow. What the hell.
See you on the flipside.

Music: Buttons - The Pussycat Dolls (okay, so I listened to it like 15 times today...)

"The human body is not made to do what you're doing."

Words of wisdom from my personal trainer. The most amusing part of our pre-training meeting was that I was giving him tips on running and convincing him that he should run the Mini next year. We'll see what this gets me. I think it'll be worth it though, if only to get my mom off my back about how much I'm exercising.

So anyway, ran 9 today. Wasn't too bad. Even went to the Rathskeller last night and had a "baby beer."

New clothes

And I'm bounding all over the place. It's amazing the difference a little wicking can make. :)

Kudos to me...

...for getting my butt out of bed this morning to run. Yay. For some reason it's getting harder to start initially, but easier to keep going. I've signed up for Personal Training at Lifetime to help get my resistance training in order. I guess I can tell the guy what kind of cardio I want to do or something... (uh, running?) We'll see how that goes. I've been happy with my "trial" stuff so far, so hopefully the PT time will turn me into a machine. Or at least kill The Pudge once and for all.

Five miles... take 2.

Okay, so the plan was to run Saturday, but that didn't happen because I was up way too late. So today I went to church and then did 5. It was fine. Very good, actually. My knees were a little sore, but I'm thinking that was because I didn't stretch enough. Now, all I need is more self-discipline...

Distance: 5 miles.

All soaking wet.

Why am I sweating so freaking much? I don't have to run tomorrow. YAY!

Mindless running.

Tonight just seemed like the same old routine, but it was good, I guess. I SO should have run outside. Stupid unpredictable Indiana weather. Didn't know it was nice out until I got outside after running. Unfortunately 89 looks the same as 70.

I need a rubdown. Or something. Some kind of action other than running and mowing the lawn.

Distance: 4 miles.

Cram it.

Eating way too much and then running is a bad idea. Barf. Fireworks. Yay.

Fight or flight, right?

The long run today went really well. About as good as I was expecting, since I had a lame ass Friday night that involved me going to bed just when everyone was calling me to go out. But I learned something. Unless I go over 4 miles, the whole "this is crazy" mentality is absent. Around that point, I realize that I'm tired, but I still have a ways to go, so I'd better step it up.

That and I don't know where I'd be without my Fall Out Boy. :)
