Perhaps I'm a Runner?

Flash-foward several months again and I've discovered that this whole running thing is an addiction...and I've gotten Greg hooked. Muahahah. :>

Follow my journey as I prepare for the Chicago Marathon and get in tip-top shape. A far cry from my days as a fat kid that took like 25 minutes to run a mile in gym class. If only Mr. Simpson could see me now...

Mini 2009

The last Mini of my 20s.

I really enjoy labeling everything this year as "the last {insert thing here} of my 20s."

Anyway, one month into training and we're doing well. No injuries as of yet and the 5 mile long run came easy this week.

AND! AND! It's going to be 65 tomorrow! Sweet. Greg and I are planning on hitting the Monon. Cannot wait. The only good thing about all the negative degree weather is that when its in the 60s, it's balmy.

Eeek... It's been a long time.

I haven't completely quit running. I run now just when I'm irked. Annoyed. Frustrated.

It's working well for me, really. More often than not I've been ellipticalling and doing weights.

But we're signed up for the Mini......

More to come.

Back in the saddle again

Running has become routine again, which is awesome. I've been sticking with 3 minutes, or usually about 3 miles, at least 3 times a week.

I'm beginning to realize that running one of the few things in my life that isn't totally stressful. It makes me SO thankful and gives me time to think more clearly. The irony of that is that, somehow, I can zone out in a room full of TVs, blaring music and talking people. On the treadmill, watching the news, I constantly find myself thanking God for all I have. I am SO blessed. And I can feel that in my legs and my entire body as I'm running. There's nothing like it.

Plus I've lost two pounds, bitches.

Refreshed

I started running again a few weeks ago and, to my surprise, running actually made my hamstring loosen up a bit. So I've been doing 3-4 miles every other day for the past two weeks. And now, as has been the case when I start working out regularly, I'm sick.

So I'm taking a day or two off. But it's been really good to run again. I'm getting back in the swing of things for Mini #5. My goal is to break 2 hours. That means running about 7 miles per hour, to be safe. I'm excited about it again. Finally.

Mini #4.

Okay, so I've not really been updating this... and I need update and say that I'm burnt out on running.

Today I ran my fourth Mini and I realized that it just wasn't fun for me any more. It was more fun for me to just walk on the side and slap the hands of all of the little kids and adults cheering people on. A while go I realized that I didn't really take a break after the marathon. My IT band is constantly inflamed and my feet are just in shambles.

So, I've decided I have to rest for awhile and, in the words of Bono, "dream it all up again."
Or at least go to the doctor. :)

Until next year's Mini training, bitches.

Oooookay...

So I'm doing a crappy job of posting to this thing.

I think it's mostly because I've completely lost my motivation to run. I've been running, but not happily. I'm not really sure what else I can injure. :)

But yesterday I did 6 miles in 6 minutes, including stopping twice to get water. Greg kept right up to me, too. I think he just likes running behind me so he can look at my butt. :)

Weenies!

We ended up running inside. Only because the high temp dropped from 40 to about 25... Perhaps if there weren't snow and ice all over the ground we would have attempted it.. Maybe we'll get lucky next Saturday.

Aside from that, though, it was my best run to date. Either the runners' high is back or I was having a kick ass reaction to the Gu/inhaler combo I had going on. I ripped 7 miles off in 66:30 (about a 9:30 min mile). I'm pretty happy with that, but just hope I can maintain it. I'm sure the pasta dinner I cooked the night before helped. :)

Distance: 7 miles, bitches!
Time: 66:30
